FIREFIGHTERS COMPLETE TRUCK COMPANY OPERATIONS
1 CLASS
On January 29, members from West Ridge FD, West
Lake FD, McKean FD and Belle Valley FD (Erie
County) completed their truck company operations
1 class. For the first two weeks of the class,
crews had a classroom session explaining the
use of a truck company and practice on placing
ground ladders and rescue a victim from a second
story window. The last day of the class, the
training took place at a house that was donated
by a local restaurant. Crews performed several
search and rescue drills including a simulated
possible entrapment drill. Training was also
held on how to force open a door, and the several
kind of locks that fire crews encounter. The
Junior Firefighters from West Ridge FD also
had the opportunity to use the SBCA for the
first time and perform a simulated search and
rescue drill as well. Today's training also
gave crews a chance to practice the accountability
systems that is currently used. A pepper fog
machine was issued to make the search and rescue
drill seem like the real thing.
