01/01/2005 - West Ridge MVA with Entrapment

:: Intersection of Sterrettania and Old Sterrettania (south end)

NEW YEAR'S DAY VEHICLE ACCIDENT WITH RESCUE

January 1 - At 238 hrs, units were dispatched to the intersection of Sterrettania and Old Sterrettania (south end) for a vehicle accident with a person trapped under the vehicle. Chief 460 arrived on location and confirmed the entrapment. Engine 17 arrived on location, setup lighting, and went into rescue operations. With the person being trapped underneath the vehicle, Rescue 1 from West Lake was requested to respond as well for their airbags. Rescue 1 arrived on location and immediately deployed the airbags to raise the vehicle from the person. The driver, the only person in the vehicle, was entrapped for about 25 minutes. Lifestar was special called to the scene to airlift the patient to the trauma center in Erie. After the patient was packaged at the scene, MP28 transported the patient to a landing zone setup at Walnut Creek Middle School. There, the patient was transferred to Lifestar. Truck 12 was special called to the scene to assist Millcreek Township Police with lighting up the scene for the investigators. As Engine 16 was leaving South Station to respond to the wreck, a separate vehicle accident occurred in front of the station. No injuries were reported at that wreck. Chief 460 had command.
