07/12/2005 - Penn Hills - Kitchen Fire

Cadwell & Leechburg Road

An early morning blaze 7/12/05 at the corner of Cadwell and Leechburg Rd in Penn Hills in an old Funeral Home which was converted to apartments appears to have started in a new refrigerator. Firefighters were able to keep fire damage to the one room but smoke damage is throughout out the first floor. The tennant who had a grease fire approximately 1 year ago is thankful for the fire fighters responding quickly and saving most of her possessions after passer-bys called police. She was at work as an aide for developmentally challenged adults. Fire Marshal Jack Mason CFI is still finishing his investigation but feels the fire more than likely started in the rear of the refrigerator.
