02/12/2005 - Port Vue - Apartment Fire

Westwood Apartments, Washington Blvd

Shortly after midnight Port Vue Station 237 and Liberty Station 183 were dispatched for a residential structure fire on Washington Blvd at the Westwood Apartments. Chief 237 was on scene first and established command. He quickly asked for a second alarm after confirming a working fire. Glassport stations 161, 162, and Dravosburg station 131 were dispatched as part of the second alarm. After the 2nd alarm was dispatched, Chief 237 had the air cleared after receiving word of possible entrapment. A few minutes later Chief 237 confirmed that there was no entrapment and the airways were opened back up. Units made a quick knockdown and contained the fire into one apartment. The stairway and other units received some moderate smoke damage. Fire was believed to start in the kitchen. No injuries were reported.

Report by Jeff Bertok, photos submitted by Chris Ponchak.
